A Heart and a Soul probably in his opinion are the important things in a relationship. Therefore he needs his “partner” to believe him that he will commit himself with a Heart (Love) and a Soul (compassion).

"A long way from the playground"
They aren’t kids anymore, and rather young adults. The playground is an essential childhood place, so pointing out physical distance from it symbolizes how much time has passed since they outgrew teenagehood.
They also have been together a long time.
"Long before we both thought the same thing
To be loved, to be in love"
He started loving her a long time ago before she even thought of them being more than friends.
This line also refers to the line where he says: “A long way from the playground”.
He knows her since they were kids and started developing feelings for her but she didn’t feel the same about him at that time.

By “split the night wide open”, he wants to live in the moment with his lover. It’s a hyperbolic phrase for going out late and doing what they want. It has a deterministic, youthful vibe to it, which he’s trying to recapture.
“Slow motion” is associated with observing and enjoying every detail. He wants savor every second they spend together, instead of succumbing to life’s fast pace.
