One Direction - A.M

"Won't you stay till the A.M?
All my favourite conversations
Always made in the A.M, yeah yeah
Feels like this could be forever tonight
Break these clocks, forget about time
There could be a World War 3 goin' on outside
You and me were raised in the same part of town
Got these scars on the same ground
Remember how we used to kick around just wasting time?
Won't you stay till the A.M?
All my favourite conversations
Always made in the A.M
Cause we don't know what we're saying
We're just swimming around in our glasses
And talking out of our asses
Like we're all gonna make it, yeah yeah
Feels like this could be forever right now
Don't wanna sleep 'cause we're dreaming out loud
Trying to behave but you know
That we never learned how
You and me were raised in the same part of town
Got these scars on the same ground
Remember how we used to kick around just wasting time?
Won't you stay till the A.M?
All my favourite conversations
Always made in the A.M
Cause we don't know what we're saying

We're just swimming around in our glasses
And talking out of our asses
Like we're all gonna make it, yeah yeah
You know I'm always coming back to this place
You know
And I'll say
You know I'm always gonna look for your face
You know
Won't you stay till the A.M?
All my favourite conversations
Always made in the A.M
Cause we don't know what we're saying
We're just swimming around in our glasses
And talking out of our asses
Like we're all gonna make it, yeah yeah
Won't you stay till the A.M?
You know I'm always coming back to this place
Won't you stay till the A.M? Yeah yeah
You know
Won't you stay till the A.M?
You know I'm always gonna look for your face
Won't you stay till the A.M? Yeah yeah."

“A.M.” is the 17th song and a bonus track on One Direction’s fifth studio album, Made in the A.M.. This song is co-written by Julian Bunetta, Ed Drewett, Wayne Hector, John Ryan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles.
This is the only song which credits all four band members as writers, and with a rather straight-forward melody and message it gives the idea of the band sitting around and chatting in the a.m..
In an interview Niall described this song as being “pretty straight-forward”, describing the conversations you may have with your mates after a night out.

"Feels like this could be forever tonight
Break these clocks, forget about time
There could be a World War 3 goin' on outside"
The line ‘break these clocks’ provides imagery of one being so immersed in the moment that they completely shatter the concept of time, or even a sense of place (ie. WW3 going on). As they converse until the A.M., everything seems to be frozen, and they are just completely absorbed in the moment, and wish it could last forever.

"You and me were raised in the same part of town
Got these scars on the same ground
Remember how we used to kick around just wasting time?"
The two of them grew up together, playing the reckless activities of children who still had their entire lives to live, not caring about the future because that was so far away. This is particularly personal to the band, who all basically grew up together as One Direction. They started out young kicking around and having a laugh, but have now matured as they’ve gotten older. The scars represent the pain and hurt they’ve been through, and how they’ve been together through it all.

"Won't you stay till the A.M?
All my favourite conversations
Always made in the A.M"
The first part of the chorus repeats the first lines of the song, where the singer is requesting for the person to stay with them until the morning, since he enjoys having nonsensical, deep conversations in the early hours of the day, where both are exhausted and have no idea exactly what they are talking about, yet are having a good time nevertheless.
It’s also a reference to the end of the shows of their On The Road Again tour when they had those conversations after the shows.

"Cause we don't know what we're saying
We're just swimming around in our glasses
And talking out of our asses
Like we're all gonna make it, yeah yeah"
When you’re talking nonsense with your closest friends early in the morning and very drunk, everything seems possible, even the happy endings of seemingly dark situations, such as One Direction’s hiatus in 2016. Talking out of your ass is a phrase which means to talk nonsense about things you have no real knowledge of.

"Feels like this could be forever right now
Don't wanna sleep 'cause we're dreaming out loud
Trying to behave but you know
That we never learned how"
Dreams are often wild, and could never happen in reality. However, when they are “dreaming out loud”, they discuss all the possibilities in the world, not even bothering trying to practice their manners or be reasonable.

"You know I'm always coming back to this place
You know
And I'll say
You know I'm always gonna look for your face
You know"
No matter how far they’ll wander away from each other, at the end of the day, they’ll somehow find their way back to each other, back home, back to safety and comfort. There will always be a part of the other person in their heart, no matter where they go.
